Highly agree — student debt makes you live to work and work to live. And most likely, you don’t even find a job in your field after graduating because you lack experience in that market! It’s a nightmare dressed as a dream, and by the time you wake up, it’s too late — and still terrifying

I think it's ego riding on coat tails.  Present day Americans think that they're responsible for the achievements of previous generations, rather than simply being the inheritors.  The US truly has done some remarkable things, pushed humanity forward in many ways.  Like any inheritance, that can be invested or squandered.
