I've been a member of SG for 13 years now (and yes, I'm fully aware that may be longer than some of you have even heard of SG, you don't need to rub in my face how ancient I am LOL), and I'm amazed at how much has changed in those 13 years, becoming even more of an actual community.
Back when I joined, yes some people had actual pages where they would write and comment on things but it seemed like unless you were friends with that person the most interactions between members (and the occasional hopeful or SG) was in groups. Then, I noticed that every once in a while a hopeful would start to follow me. Sure a lot of them just wanted a follow back because they were trying to grow their numbers but sometimes you actually had someone who was interested in you and hoped you'd be interested in them.
(Just gotta get this outta the way, even back then the majority of us knew that this isn't a dating site, but there were still some -just like today- who took being followed as being hit on. 99.999% of the time, it was not LOL)
Back then, the only time I ever had an actual SG follow me was cuz they were trying to promote stuff like their cam shows and whatnot. And if you didn't take the bait, they usually unfollowed you.
Fast-forward to today. Sure, you still do sometimes get SGs and hopefuls who only follow you cuz they're trying to grow their numbers or to promote their sex work outside of SG (and I do get it, it's both a social media site and potential networking site), but nowadays it seems like the SGs and hopefuls who follow you do so cuz they think you're a cool person (if you're not also an SG or a hopeful I mean). And I personally think that's awesome! It really does make it feel like a community, where you can pop in, check in on friends, have some laughs and sometimes deep conversations, and you also get to see gorgeous women naked. If it gets better than that, I don't know how :D
So yes, it's changed, and I'm not exactly sure what happened to make it change, but I for one am happy it did <3
