That is a powerful and compelling analysis.  And one of the most insidious and crazy thing about it is how is leaves intact the real victim's goodwill toward others.  They get to feel good about themselves in their tribalism because for all they know from their own perspective they genuinely are caring for others, as the OP illsutrates.
