Personally, I would have checked. Some folks feel bad asking for help, or reminding people. But, you also don't have reason to feel guilty for not doing so, because they didn't keep up the communication either.

I'm with @skisby. Might have been better if you'd checked, but you weren't under an obligation to. There is no wrong here, just less than ideal. And we can't be ideal, especially not all the time. And when you're trying to help someone? You already put yourself out there to do it, so I'm not sure why it should also be on you to coordinate it and make it happen.

Keep it up! I canât keep up with my daily woods romp now that Iâm back to work, but try to get outside at lunchtime for some air & another after work to unwind.
