You know what would be great? If I could do what I really wanted to do and have some job security in it.

I'm an Accounting major. Not because I like Accounting (I like math but it doesn't rock my world), but mostly because there's so uch job security in it. Good pay, too. But in all honesty, I'd rather be doing web design or graphic design. People get paid to make little piddly stuff like this:

so why can't I? I recently came across a site of people who Photoshop pictures for a living, and looking at some of the before & afters, I was coming up with "they forgot to change the colors of this piece they pasted in, and now you can see the edge of it because it doesn't match the rest of the pic". They can airbrush pictures of Paris Hilton (by the way, I found it hilarious because she looks pretty un-curvy and flat in the original), but they can't do a simple color tweak on a hair chunk? And they get paid?

And web design...I like playing with Photoshop, but I have been running my own domain for almost a year. I do all of the coding in Notepad, too - I'm a firm believer in stabbing Dreamweaver, FrontPage, and every other WYSIWYG editior in the nuts with a spork.

Speaking of my domain, it's due for a new layout. My problem is, I try to be dial-up and 800x600 friendly whenever possible (though the latter is the one I hate worrying about). I'd love to make some really kickass blend or something and use that, but we'll see.

I've been thinking of getting a second domain and taking on a couple hostees. Silently-broken.com, perhaps (I would've gone for organizedchaos, but it's in use). Or maybe get a second domain for my personal crap, like embedding my LJ or something, and then have my current domain for my graphics. Oh, I just want another domain.

I also want to do a breast cancer walk this year. I wanted to do the Avon one in Chicago last year, but I stretched/tore the ligaments in my ankle in October '03 so that was a no-go. My ankle doesn't really bother me anymore, so this year I will at least do the Race for the Cure on Mother's Day. I would also like to do The 3-Day here in Minneapolis, but raising the $2,100 is the problem (Avon walks require $1,800). My mom doesn't agree with me wanting to try the Avon walk in Chicago this year (because there are local ones that don't require me to travel 500 miles or whatever it is). Going by the SGs FAQs, I wouldn't be able to use the site to do any fundraising, either.

I have a paper cut.
whitewidow:
Wow - you have such wonderful goals in life! I admire you for doing things like walks for cancer and marathons. I commend you on that - it takes a big hearted person to achieve things like this. I think that if you have a goal to do somthing, then you should do everything in your power to get it. I let my dream job go twice, and I'll regret it for the rest of my lifefrown

Hope all is wellbiggrin

Awww thanks - I got the virus off though - thanks to my roomie!

As for me and cancer - I had a dance student with cancer about 6 years ago and at the time I had hair down to my butt so I cut it to my shoulders and gave it to her for a wig. Now I am working with a woman how has breast cancer and now that my hair is back down to my waist I told her just to say the word and I'd cut it off for her toosmile

Keep up the great work - it is people like you who make the differencebiggrin
