Story Rev2
There was a whistle outside my window.
The power had been out for over two hours, so in my bed i laid and read by flashlight. My eyes blinked and sound registered in my head and i heard it again. A loud shrill whistle. I climbed out of bed and look outside of my window. the street was dark, the only light was from the moon and the stars, the sky was perfectly clear. And I saw her.
She stood on the sidewalk looking up at me. Even with just the moonlight, her features were so easy to see, like she had an inner light. Her smile beamed. She waved me to come out and...against what i would consider was my better judgemnet, i wanted to, i moved away from the window and grabbed a pair of my khaki's that were on the floor and quickly pulled them on and moved back to the window in time to see her smile turn away from me as she began to walk down the street.
I opened my window and climbed out into the cold night air, my bare feet and my pants being the only protection from the night. She turned again to face me as i cursed the concrete as i dropped myself down to the driveway. She began to run as she came upon the sidewalk on the other side of the street and i took chase.
Her hair danced as she ran, bouncing off of her back and floated in the wind. I gritted my teeth as each pebble bit into my feet as i ran, keeping pace with her. Following this...exquisite being, as she lead me out of town and into a lush green field and she stopped at a large oak tree beside a stream and sat, leaning back against the tree. I slowed to a walk as i got closer, and finally stopped when i was within twenty feet of the tree, scared that if i made any sudden movements, this moment would disappear, and all i would have for my night would be to try and figure out a way to get back into my locked house. But hesitation could only deliver a moment and action can either bring downfall or adventure. So i moved, i moved hoping for adventure. i stepped towards the tree, and sat on the opposite side of the tree. i turned my head to the side to watch if she decided to resume the chase, but from around the tree her hand appeared, he palm up and hovering above the dew covered grass. I reached out slowly and held her hand.
It felt like electricity, my thumb gently stroked the back of her hand and she gently squeezed my hand. I couldn't help but smile, I don't know why. i looked up into the sky saw a star fall our of the sky and burn up as it fell towards the earth. I tried to think of a wish, a habit from youth, but whats the harm. I didn't know what to wish for. That this moment would never end? Everything must mature or else it stagnates. That this...this beautiful creature would never leave me? I have never seen her before this night and all i know is that her smile is an intoxicant to me, besides how could i cage something so...so wild and free. It's like someone bottled lightening but couldn't stand the guilt of holding it for themselves, so they shook the bottle up till their arm was sore then popped the cork, letting it fly out of the bottle and into the night sky to dance across it, shocking everyone and opening everyones eyes, saying to the world, "Look at me! i'm free! I'm beautiful!" Letting everyone chase it until they were tired.
And here i am, holding hands with lightening and it's so magical, and so scary and so sad. Sad because i know it may end. And i don't think i will find it again.
