"Me Too!"
I am a gentle man,
Nature molded me thus.
So in my words and actions,
fair maidens can surely trust.
Equality, respect, support, and dignity a must.
But not all men feel the same,
they use their power to hurt, humble, and maim,
to hobble, debase, to claim
what is not theirs to name;
women’s bodies, their spirits; shame!
Me too, Me too,
has been the call,
to rally women to tell their
heartbreaking stories of sexual abuse
large and small.
Me too, Me too,
should break all moral hearts,
surely no women (or man),
should have to lay their body and dignity
on the line, for their rightful part…
…in OUR supposed Civilized Society,
the one with the alleged righteous heart!
But there are men among us who
support, nurture, and stand beside women
as they push back against this evil.
WE must make OUR presence felt,
WE must speak up and push back
Whenever and wherever WE…
Witness, or hear, abuse taking place,
we must advocate for women,
be true friends, partners,
and steadfast bulwarks against abuse.
RESPECT women as WHOLE human beings,
for that is an essential truth!
This abuse,
no matter its form,
this soul robbing affront to human dignity,
HAS TO STOP!
So many lovely spirits I see,
caring, intelligent beings,
the best of us, of humanity;
they care for our children,
nurse them from their own bodies,
nurture the little ones and WE (men) as well.
How dare we violate their bodies because we can!
How dare any man stand by and let it happen,
turn a blind eye, a back, when what is needed is a helping hand,
a kind word, an acknowledgment that women MATTER,
to men,
to society…they are vital, essential…
They are the best of US,
The indispensable beating heart of US!
So, STOP the abuse,
Sexual,
Physical,
Mental,
STOP, so we don't have to hear one more women
Stand, and say: "ME TOO!"
