my grandmaster gave a seminar today on chi kung and push hands. chi kung is breathing and meditation poses to develop one's chi, or energy, and also to eliminate the build-up of stress and tension in your body. push hands is where you stand facing your opponent with one arm raised touching your his or her wrist, the other arm is on his elbow. the goal is to push (or pull) your opponent off-balance, but without either striking or grabbing. also, you have to always remain in contact with both hands. i enjoy push hands a lot, you are able to feel a person's tension and then exploit it. it's helped me out a lot in feeling tension in someone's body when i do body work.

my grandmaster gave a very good analogy about how meditation is good for the mind. he said it is like a fishbowl. if there is a speck on the glass you can pick at it, but in picking at it you only end up stirring up all the sediment in the bowl and then everything is made everything cloudy.

Shit, I saw grandmaster and thought grand wizard. I was expecting to hear about a seminar for cross burning or tarring and feathering. I guess my country relatives have left an impression on me. biggrin um k but seriously, Push hands sounds very soulful.
