sonic discourse: Rithma -- the new simple (Joshua's main mix) (tweekin)

just bought some new records today. the track listed above is one of those, and after coming home from a long night of work, it's doing a lot for me right now. this track is the essence of house music for me . . . deep, funky, emotive, spiritual yet without being serious.

being non-judgemental is an interesting topic i've been rolling around in my mind this evening. when a person looks at reality, he or she tends to pick it apart, according to separate experiences, individual hours, day and night, work time and play time, and then we label this slice of reality -- its color, flavor, detail and emotional attachment -- and then place it in a cubby-hole of memory labeled either "good" or "bad", or possibly "indifferent." the problem with this is that what we've labeled "good" usually feels good, and "bad" is generally unpleasant, painful, heartbreaking. and "indifferent", we usually ignore. so a person seeks the "good" and avoids the "bad" and sleepwalks through the "indifferent." this process seems to limit what we experience. attitudes towards "bad" are developed so that whenever "bad" appears we just react, we never stop and carefully observe it. once you look at "bad" long enough, it becomes de-mystified, and just becomes a part of reality. and "indifferent": i walk back and forth to a friend's house and last night i just realized the way the night cloaks the peaks around my neighborhood, and the strange angles of the houses as they cut into the sky.

i like the process of getting tattooed. it's not pleasant; the sound of the gun, the vibration of the needle tearing through the skin, the elongation of time as the process becomes more and more enduring. but what are you going to do? you just have to sit there and pay attention to it, you can't wuss out of it, and you can't talk enough to not feel that nerve getting tagged or hear the sound of the tattoo gun when it scrapes over a bone. all you can do is bear it out. but once you have, this thing of beauty exists, and it's on you, and it will always be there as a reminder.

I love getting tattooed. I love the process, the pain, and (hopefully) the outcome.

I love the bad things in life. I love the downs. They're completely necessary. They build character and teach you to appreciate the good things in life.

Yes, breaks...mmmm indeed. Especially Adam. We brought him out a couple of years ago at the DNA. It was awesome, a couple of weeks after BM. We're trying to get him out again (to play with Phil Smart) but dates are being worked on. Either before or after BM. I hope for before.
