It's that time of year again. Everyone's leases are up. Everyone is moving. The streets are littered with discarded 70's era furniture and broken(?) electronic crap. It's a free-for-all.
I, however, am doing nothing about my impending move-out. I'd rather dick around on the internet or train for my marathon that is less than two months away.
But sometimes these strenuous activities make me hungry. Unfortunately, I have less than two dollars. This is when Po' as Broke Cake is the most delicious thing ever. I'm including my very own recipe because I know you will L-O-V-E it.

CAKE CAKE CAKE CAKE CAKITY CAKE CAKE CAKE CAKE
1.5 cup flour (look in cupboards)
1 cup sugar (borrow from neighbor)
1 packet instant hot cocoa mix (from February care package from Aunt)
1 tsp Baking soda (optional, i suppose- is a tsp really going to matter?!?)
MIX THESE INGREDIANTS IN A BOWL... OR SOMETHING
then add
1 tsp vanilla (or Flavorite brand artificial vanilla flavoring if you roll like me)
1 tsp vinegar (who doesn't have vinegar? optional i guess)
5 tbl vegetable oil (or any kind of oil. peanut oil. olive oil. motor oil-not really.)
1 cup cold water (you damn well better have cold water)
okay... mix that up and pour it in a pan. i used a tin foil pie pan that had enjoyed a previous life as a frisbee. still good. bake it at 350 degrees in an oven until the top kind of opens up like a fault in an earthquake.
eat it warm with a spoon. all by yourself. then bake another because you promised a friend you had cake for him.
oh and i added some chopped walnuts to my cake because they were lying around looking sad. you can add other things you want to get rid of- like chocolate chips, marshmallows, or pencil shavings.

hehe.... i was SO hungry early sunday morning. i whipped up some Po' Cake. unfortunately, Po' Cake can also be known as Poo Cake, because i have not been feeling well. probably related to the fact that i have eaten very little besides my cake in the last 40 hours. 5 more days before i can have a decent (HOMECOOKED!!!) meal.

thank you to all who recommended movies in my earlier post. i had already stopped at the video store by the time i received the comments, but i was fairly happy with my choices.
#1- Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. a friend told me to watch this one and i watched it with him and fell asleep during it on his futon. i finished it later, but i still wasn't really that into it. meh.
#2- Wet Hot American Summer. another friend recommendation. people would quote this movie all the time and i would never get their references, but now i will. it wasn't really my type of comedy, but there was a hot scene of man-on-man action involving michael ian black. hurrah!
#3- Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. Hamlet is my favorite Shakespearean play. this was a wonderful movie. i LOVED it. it's so clever and witty. the banter between the poor 'useless' characters is hilarious, and the film actual made me think as well.
#4- The Cook, the Thief, his Wife, and her Lover. this one was also very very good. all the costumes were designed by Jean Paul Gaultier. GORGEOUS. it was a dark and sick drama about love and food. my friend had to watch it for a class at her art school, so i rented it out of curiosity on how it related to the project she made. i was so impressed.

i'm looking forward to a night of relaxing in my room, knitting, and playing guitar. i hope you all have a great night, too. tongue
