that was the fear with the Gretsch (or any hollow body)...that it would sound like dogshit the moment you added any gain at all.
I plugged that thing into my Marshall JCM900 head...and to my surprise, no feedback. Sounded great, too. I mean, it doesn't stack up to my Les Pauls...but the Gretsch was on $500. Neck feels exactly like the Pauls, too. And it's well balanced. All in all, I love it.
One gripe would be that it's too light. But then again...I love boat anchors...
