Last Wednesday, we were at a crappy buffet and I noticed a guy there that looked sick and his hair looked like peach fuzz. When I sat down, my wife asked me if I noticed the guy with the little black bag. No, but I noticed the guy that looked like he was going through chemo, we were talking about the same guy. She said that he was probably getting chemo from the little bag, as he walked around filling a to-go box at the buffet. Before, I noticed him seeming worn out and having some difficulty. After I realized that he was sick and not just some old crazy guy in his pajamas at a buffet, I asked him if he needed help with anything. He was done loading the boxes with food, but we stood there talking for about 10 minutes. He did most of the talking and he seemed to really like having someone to talk to. He thanked me for taking the time. His name was Bob. I didn't want to tell him that he shouldn't be eating buffet food, while on chemo. When he mentioned the awfulness of his hospital, I didn't want to tell him about how lucky I was with the hospital I went to. When he mentioned something about his friends not being around now that he needs them, I didn't want to mention how lucky I was to have the friends that I do, especially while going through chemo. I should have given him my phone number and told him to call me if he needs anything. It must be miserable having to go to a crappy buffet to load up a box of food to go, but then again, it might be good for him to get out of the house.

I have such a bad memory and I forget so many people. I don't think I'll be forgetting this guy.

Aw, that's tough to see. Glad you reached out to him, I'm sure he was as well even if it was only for a brief moment.

I bet that you listening to him helped him greatly. Don't have regrets of what you should have done. I'm sure you'll see him again.
