CAVLDRON 6IX <> DAY OF WRATH AND DOOM IMPENDING... HEAVEN AND EARTH IN ASHES ENDING. (Thomas Of Celano)

[ Now playing in Demon Tribe Hollow... Little Girl by Death From Above 1979 from Youre A Woman, Im A Machine ]

[ Also playing in Demon Tribe Hollow... Alice Practice by Crystal Castles from Crystal Castles ]

[ Further playing in Demon Tribe Hollow... Denn Alles Fleisch, Es Ist Wie Gras by Johannes Brahms from Ein Deutsches Requiem, Nach Worten Der Heiligen Schrift ]

[ And forever playing in Demon Tribe Hollow... Confutatis Maledictis & Lacrimosa Dies Illa by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart from Requim Mass In D Minor ]

I thought I would shout a bit about two of my favorite duos in music, as well as two of my favorite requiems, just to switch shit up a bit.

Death From Above is an inventive and heavy pair of best friends from Toronto, one of whom is a great drummer and vocalist, and the other a wicked bassist. So wicked, in fact, that this Jesse Keeler is able to make his bass sound like its adeptly handling what sounds at times like a bank of guitars. And Sebastien Grainger pounds the skins as handily as any drummer/singer since Don Fucking Henley. But though his voice is gorgeous on record, apparently it can suffer some in a live setting when exhaustion sets in from such relentless percussive brutalizing.

In any case, Little Girl features a righteous riff by Keeler and super sick banging and screaming by Grainger.

And as it so happens, DFA city-mates Crystal Castles are also wildly innovative and industrious, as well. Crooner and madwoman Alice Glass sings in much the same way as Grainger, but in this case Ethan Kath handles all of the music in a far more electronic vein than DFA. However, despite this less analog approach, the songs still resonate with substance and weight, and often have an unsettling melancholy about them, despite their rabid intensity.

Obviously, the Toronto scene is radically alive and varied when it comes to grooves to both sooth and sear the ears.

And finally, theres not a lot I can say about Brahms and Mozart that hasnt already been said. However, it deserves to be stated once more that both men wrote impeccably brilliant requiems that will forever endure. Among the contrasting sections, motifs and tempos that comprise each work are the two stark, bold and ferociously declarative movements for which Im providing links. Mozarts Confutatis Maledictis\ and Brahms Denn Alles Fleisch are incomparable in every way. Plus, they both specifically concern death, so, you know, you cant go wrong.

In other news, got quite a bit of errands run today. Also, Im going to start posting photos soon, since god knows a person can only take so much of my prattling on.
