[ Now playing in Demon Tribe Hollow... The Skinny Toe (track 5,502 of 56,999) by Robert Dryden / Troll Records from Scary Spooky Stories ]

I'm back, dammit. And I'm completely determined to make 2012 my year. I know I've been determined before, but this time I'm really, really determined.

Also, this is the first time in 15 years that I'm getting my music online again. And there's so much more to put up now. (A lot's happened in a decade and a half.)

I'll be announcing that site on Tuesday morning, which is a big deal. (At least to me.)

At the same time, I'm very sad, because I miss my mom. For the past 20 years, I've always visited her during this time, but she died on the morning of October 26 of this past year from a stroke.

And I have to admit that I'm also a little scared. I've had these heart palpitations in the past and, well, just over the last year I've sometimes found it hard to burp. I know that sounds funny, but I think something might be wacky with my heart. And that scares me.

But the only thing to do is see the doctor, right? (Definitely going to do that this month.) I mean, I don't get out of breath easily or anything like that. It's just a little... freaky, at times.

I think it might have something to do with my diet. I typically have a really healthy, but strange diet. But I don't eat often. I'm sure I don't eat enough, actually. And I work too much.

Of course, that's not the only thing strange about me. It's the only thing physically that concerns me at the moment, but everyone who knows me knows that I'm an odd duck, mentally. (I'm also really fucking tall, but that's beside the point.)

Anyway, gotta be strong, right? Fly that freakflag.

I may actually be putting a down payment on a house this year, though I have yet to really start looking. (Gonna do that this month too. At least, I plan to.) Everything will be a bit easier after this music site of mine is up. It's been a crazy past two months of working on that in earnest.

I'm really going to post every day this year, too. That's another serious goal. And I'm going to share more personal things. I think that makes peoples' posts more interesting. (It does for me, anyway.)

I may finally get some ink, too. Though, oddly, that somewhat depends on the reception my site gets. (More on that later.)

There was also this strange sign this morning, just at the start of 2012. I mean, at 12:00a exactly.

I have what I consider to be a master collection of music on this 120G iPod of mine. There's 59,666 tracks on there, in fact. All of my music is on there, too, but as you might imagine, it makes up a very small fraction of the total.

And I have the thing on this really, really long shuffle sequence. I just set everything to shuffle months ago, and so it's just going through this list of nearly 60,000 tracks. And I only listen on occasion, maybe not even an hour on most days. So you can imagine how long this one sequence will last. Quite possibly years.

But I was playing it when the new year turned this morning, and the very first song that played at 12a exactly was a tune of mine called "Stillpoint". It's one that I'm particularly proud of, and my face definitely lit up when I heard it.

Anyway, it might be weird to say this, but I took it as a sign. This will be my year. And it's the Mayans', as well. Because if you didn't know, on December 21 of this year, the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar (used most notably by the Mayans) completes a Great Cycle of 13 "b'ak'tuns", which only happens about every 5,129 years. I'd like to think this gives 2012 some special significance, and the Mayans do, too. (After all, they are quite remarkable for having had the only known fully developed written language of the pre-Columbian Americas, among a great many other reasons.)

Zapata Vive!

Get thee to the cardiologist! Have a great year. It's a great time to buy some real estate too. Good luck.
