I couldn't say for the iPod, I just got my first one this Christmas, Gab bought it for me. It's only a 16 gb, and it looks like it can break by staring too long at it, but considering I didn't even have a job to pay for it, it's alright. 
I had a discman for my 18th birthday, and I had it til fucking last year. There aren't any models left tough like that! My bf had time to have like 3 discmans and 3 iPods before I decided not to use it anymore cause it scratched my cds.
