This is going to be a serious post. Sorry I keep postponing it. Tomorrow night, really!

I'm highly pleased with the name change. Surprised, too. I really thought someone would have taken it by now.

I'm not a religious man, of course, at all. I just love the idea that religion has given us of this entity of utlimate evil, whom so many things have been blamed on throughout the existence of man. Every religion has a Satan, of course,...

The novel and the film do mirror each other nearly exactly.

And there's absolutely no shame in preferring a more interactive approach to storytelling (ie, film over literature). When I was teaching, I let my kids do book reports on comic books because I figured anything that engaged their brain was worthwhile. I'm a firm believer that it isn't so much the form of the media that's important, it's the level of cognitive engagement therein. Want to read Shakespeare? Fine and dandy, but if you're not engaged in it, it's not doing you any good. Can you give me 500 words analyzing character interaction in The Avengers? That's better.

I'm a big fan of people engaging their brains. Classic literature (or even just words on a page) doesn't do it for everyone. As you can imagine, I was wildly unpopular with the other English teachers in my district--the ones who thought, "Every kid can learn to love Shakespeare, we just have to find a way for them to connect to it!" Fuck that. Seriously.

Al is going to be at the RevCo in LA at the House of Blues, thinking about possibly making the trip. He's only making 3 appearances on this tour. LA, New York and one other one.

From what my Uncle has told me (Ranger, Vietnam) is that the Air Cav was bad ass, but now they're just living on what they used to be known for and really haven't done much since Nam. I spent some time at Fort Benning, Georgia and I'd have to say that that's pretty much true about most of the Army in my opinion. Of course my opinion's skewed.

Speaking from experience, Marine Corps EOD are fucking retarded. I haven't seen The Hurt Locker, but I can pretty much imagine what it's like.

I watched some of Showing Up, BITCHIN'. that's all I have to say about that show.

"There are no experts. You probably know as much about possession as most priests. Look, your daughter doesn't say she's a demon. She says she's the devil himself."

Ugh. I'm frustrated right now. This can't be the way life is really supposed to play out, right? Getting your soul crushed weekly by the job, only really getting out on the weekends, etc. etc.? I've got to do something to change this. And I'm starting to, actually, but it seems like I need more time than I've got to really escape the monotony. All...

Ok so on Friday I got off work and went to see "G. I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra". It was decent, but lacking this one part I thought I read was supposed to be in there. Apparently, the Cobra-Commander-to-be (who was great, btw) accidentally sprays himself with some horrific toxin, and all these weird eyes sprout all over his body. Hence, you know, he...

I work with a girl that went to this show at the Forum, she told me all about it yesterday. She said she basically went to see Crystal Castles, so she was happy she at least got to see them before getting the fuck outta there.

I was in Mogadishu in '95 to rescue the stupid ass Army Air Cavalry, and yes it was definitely the 2nd Iraq, since I'm only 32.

I have not seen the video In Case You Didn't Feel Like Showing Up, I'll check it out tonight.
I'm thinking about going to the RevCo Lubricatour @ Brick by Brick although Al's not going to be there.
You going to this little bonfire shindig Saturday nite?! I gotta work, but I'll try and make it out by 8 or so.

I saw about half an hour of Boy Interrupted last night, which was a fascinating study of what is easily the most powerful organ in the history of the universe. And no, I'm talking about what you think I'm talking about, but I am referring to the brain. Because, of course, it controls your actions, and when you've got one that's puttering along normally, things...

Lawd! Another typical workday, so what can be made of that? (Answer: either a lot, or nothing, depending on one's mood.)

But yeah I'm ok, though I've got a busy night ahead of me. Mostly errands, but at the end of it I'm creepy crawling over to my dad and stepmom's place to watch a new film on HBO that's gotten a recent rave Salon...

Well, I was actually saying that, unlike most comedies, it wasn't like porn in that there were not just key parts to watch and the rest was filler. I liked that the stuff in between the jokes mattered too.

And if you're going to talk about overpowered super cars, sure the Murcielago is a lovely girl, but it's the Aston Martin Volante that has stolen my heart.

I do have a fondness for cars. Do you watch Top Gear? It's a great show.

Skipped another two days, dammit, but I'm starting to feel as though this kind of intermittent (though mostly stable) posting is going to be inevitable. I just get going on my day and unfortunately (or fortunately) stay very busy (working *and* playing) for all of it, and the next thing I know it's long after midnight, and I'm feeling pretty shot out.

But! Friday night...

My happiness is pretty stable, but more than just coming to an equilibrium with that, it feels like for the first time I'm really at home in my own skin. Yeah, I've got my flaws, everyone does, but for the most part I'm really digging being me right now.

Mr. Smith and I also saw Funny People this weekend. I described it to a friend as being like watching a porn where you don't want to fast forward through the plot parts. There were moments in that movie that were very funny, but what made it successful was that the intervening moments between jokes were more than just filler, or a way to get from one joke to another. I enjoyed it.

I was in fact the official rocket tattoo guy . There's a webpage somewhere with a bunch of images on it and stuff . . . good times !

*clears throat* Ok yeah so I fucked up a little bit, skipped a few days there. Aw fuck it, you love me anyway. And for a guy with a decent vocabulary, I still don't think I say "fuck" enough. So, fuck that fucking fucker -- dig?

Ok, so as for details which seem boring to me (because I'm living them every day), but might not...

Yeah, I suckled at the corporate teat for seven years and was miserable for every goddamn day of it. Getting fired was just about the best thing that's ever happened to me.

Being married to a software engineer has its benefits, though. Since I don't entirely need to support myself, job interviews are more like I'm interviewing them. I only take a job if I want to. Plus, I need to have time to study my Japanese, so I'm not all that fired up to get a job.

Something.
Filled up.
My heart.
With nothing.

And someone.
Told me not to cry.

And now that.
I'm older.
My heart's.
Colder.

And I can.
See that it's a lie.

Children.
Wake up.
Hold your.
Mistake up.

Before they.
Turn the summer into dust.

If children.
Don't grow up.
Our bodies get bigger but.
Our hearts get torn up.

We're just a million little gods...
