First blog homework! While i try to find a picture of me at 16 (i don’t have many photos of myself), i hope to entertain you with one of the pasts homeworks: who is (or was) my favourite superheroe, and why?.
Some of my favourites are well-known for all the fans (spiderman, wolverine, batman..) but i also like minor characters, like Longshot and Nightcrawler. But today, i am going to talk about one heroe that will have always a piece of my heart. I am talking about “Buddy” Baker, “The Animal-Man”
Animal-Man began as a minor character (as many others) in the pages of Strange Adventures. After some typical adventures, he fell in oblivion. That was until Crisis on infinite Earths, where Buddy called the attention of some editors. And they decided to give him another opportuniy, choosing a young Grant Morrison to relaunch the character. And Grant did her magic.
The epoch of Grant Morrison begin with a adult Buddy (married, father of two children) who decides trying again being a superheroe. He is a bit ashamed of dressing with a tight costume, and he is also very practical:
Things that make Animal man special is that he will defend the animals (of course) from the claws of evil hunters and creepy pharma labs, and also will fight some bizarre enemies, But he is also a father of family, and he can’t let his dangerous work affects his loved ones.In the middle of his adventures, something more lurks behind. Buddy and her family begin to suffer strange phenomena and visions related with the pre Crisis era. I am not going to spoil it all, but during his investigation, Buddy eats peyote and discover.. us!
I could have thrown the comic to the ground as Bastian did in “The neverendig story”.This break of the fourth wall came loong before Deadpool began to chat with us.
After Gran Morrison, more scriptwriters would come, each one doing his little contribution to the Animal-Man’s universe.
Last time i was with Buddy, Jeff Lemire had turned him into the protector of “The Red”, the force that sustains all animal life (as swamp thing is protector of the green) and they were fighting the rot and its agents, the three hunters.
I don’t know how this battle ended, so i think i must meet again with Buddy asap ;)
