New guidelines gut HIV prevention and endanger young peoples lives

Some excerpts from the linked article....

Lethal new regulations from President Bushs Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, quietly issued with no fanfare last week, complete the right-wing Republicans goal of gutting HIV-prevention education in the United States. In place of effective, disease-preventing safe-sex education, little will soon remain except failed programs that denounce condom use, while teaching abstinence as the only way to prevent the spread of AIDS. And those abstinence-only programs, researchers say, actually increase the risk of contracting AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

They require all such content to eliminate anything even vaguely sexually suggestive or obscene like teaching how to use a condom correctly by putting it on a dildo, or even a cucumber. And they demand that all such materials include information on the lack of effectiveness of condom use in preventing the spread of HIV and other STDs in other words, the Bush administration wants AIDS fighters to tell people: Condoms dont work.

A third of all federal HIV-education money some $270 million more in Bushs latest budget now goes to abstinence-only programs, almost universally to Christian groups as part of Bushs faith-based initiatives (no Jewish or Muslim groups receive any funds). This is a brilliant maneuver Bush has turned money earmarked for fighting AIDS into political pork for his Christer base. Much of this money goes to anti-abortion groups masquerading as womens health or crisis-pregnancy centers. Others receiving such funds engage in religious propaganda a federal judge found that Louisianas federally funded Governors Program on Abstinence illegally handed out Bibles, staged anti-abortion prayer rallies outside womens clinics, and had students perform Bible-based skits.

Okay.... so that's a lot of excerpts.... but I am physically nauseous.
-Federal money should not go to religious groups who want to promote their way of living... period.
-People are going to have sex.... period. Abstinence will only last so long and what happens when teens do start having sex and end up either pregnant or with an STD? And they will end up pregnant or with an STD.

Plus, one of my best friends ever died from AIDS and because of him AIDS awareness, etc.... has been my pet project for many years. He didn't even contract it from sex, he was a hemophiliac but no one should have to die that way.... no one should have to watch someone they love wither away and suffer before they finally find some peace in death. Sex ed wouldn't have helped my friend, but think about how many hundreds of thousands it has helped.

Alright... I'm just aggrivated beyond belief and will get off my soap box now.

Anti-Bush Admin Kisses....

My brother is also 2 years younger than me. But he was in a better position to have kids than me. I'm not a real baby person anyways. So no big deal.

I haven't done a whole lot this week. Mostly lying around and stuff. Work keeps calling, trying to get me to go in. HA! Tough shit! They said they wouldn't need me. Too late now. biggrin

Have fun tonight, and your welcome for the pic. kiss
