Who do you miss?

Many of my closest friends live all over the world from Germany to the far parts of the US like Austin and Detroit. I miss them all the time, but I'm okay with it because I still manage to talk or email with them even after so many years of living apart.

Then there is Jaime... Jaime was one of my closest friends in high school. I met him twenty years ago. He died 9 years ago. I still think of him all the time. He was an amazing guy and I know he would have turned into an amazing man. It's sad to see someone with so much heart die so young, Jaime was a hemophiliac. Jaime had many blood transfusions in the 70s and 80s. Jaime somehow got AIDS from one of those blood transfusions. Knowing that someone who would still be one of my closest friends today died from AIDS makes me hate it more than I would otherwise. All diseases that are potentially fatal suck. Medically we have come so far, but there are still so many disease that kill.... ones that we cannot seem to understand... ones that we cannot seem to cure or prevent. I'm sure one day AIDS and cancer will be a thing of the past, but why didn't they find a solution in time? No one ever said life is fair, but it seems a shame that good people have to die. Wouldn't it be nice if the Ted Bundys and the Hitlers of the world died young before they had a chance to do their harm? But, alas, life does not work that way. So I sit here (frequently) remembering a friend who has passed on to somewhere else... hoping that he is somehow happy... hoping that he somehow knows that people on this planet still love him.

This picture (circa 1986) always makes me smile because this was how we always were together... smiling and being silly. smile

Well, I overcame my disappointment and enjoyed the movie--it was really pretty good. Heath Ledger gave an amazing performance; he reminded me of half my relatives in the Southwest. Beautiful cinematography, but still realistic. And sad, sad, sad, of course; people were sobbing in the lobby as we left.

Ohh, there's no blues like moving blues. Are you moving far away, or just to better digs?
