Oh February how do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

This week and next are insanely busy. I'm being thoroughly spoilt. I cannot believe that there are some people in Nottingham (like Sandman magazine) who complain that there is a current lack of good music venues in town.

Tonight - David Ford
Ex-Easyworld, one of my first favourite bands, and now gone solo, and a criminally-unsung genius. Still sounds like Easyworld without sexy Jo the bassist. So effortlessly brilliant he almost annoys me. Almost.
Then off to a party organised by a friend to raise money for an end of year exhibition.

9th - Misty's Big Adventure
Strange and wonderful songs. Featuring dancing from the beat-boxing, balloon-popping Erotic Volvo. A many-handed creature brought to Grandmaster Gareth by a benevolent Angel. I once heard it called jazz-hop, but that's a bit misleading.

13th - Broken Social Scene
First day of the tour is on Wednesday at the Astoria. Next week they play the rescue rooms in Nottingham which is 1/3 of the size. I doubt that the full line-up of BSS contributors will be there but I live in hope.

14th - Mew and 65 Days of Static
Fourth time seeing my favourite band in the world, Mew. They make music as if they've sucked the sub-conscious from my head and put it through some amplifiers. And then projected it onto an animated backdrop. A band so stunning I lose the ability to speak and walk for a few hours after the show.
And 65 days of Static are just fucking ace.

15th - Monkey Swallows The Universe
Awful name but they seem to be getting some good reviews around Nottingham/Sheffield. A chap that I work with is supporting them with his band Plans and Apologies.
I've just listened to MSTU's mp3s and they're alright. Nice and folky. A complete contrast to Plans & Apologies though. So it'll make for a mixed night.

16th - Supernight
First night of a new club night at the Social that someone I know has started. Featuring music that I'd play in my bedroom when I'm reading or playing computer games. I'm trying to get Dan threepointsix's band a gig. I want to DJ there.

17th - Isobel Campbell and Jeniferever.
What a great gig. I doubt Mark Lanegan will show up but you never know.
Jeniferever. On Big Scary Monsters label which a guy I know runs. They're fantastic. Like Explosions in The Sky with lyrics. Beautiful Swedish lyrics. Well, they sing in English but they're from Sweden and pack quite a punch live. An ivy and passiflora covered wall of sound that I cannot recommend enough.

18th - Jamie T
Live he plays an acoustic bass and songs about being a working class kid in a scummy area of London. Like the Streets meets Arctic Monkeys but a million times better than I could ever describe. Some reviewer I make, hey. Two Gallants are supporting.

I might put some Mp3s and a proper journal up in a bit. But right now I have to get going.

honey:
wow, you are busy smile

I do cry at terrible films...but I think Forrest Gump is pretty awful, too biggrin

Rocky Horror makes me want to wear really really high heels!

Matins is the morning sunday chapel service, and Evensong is the evening one smile
I was in the choir, so I could never skive mad
