i went to borders 2 or 3 yesterdays ago on the mission to find a new journal as I has cover to cover'd my last one.
while browsing i heard a woman tell the manager behind me that an old woman had fallen in the parking lot.
I identified myself as an EMT and followed the manager outside to help.
it was a little old lady. she had little old lady skin - very thin - and had somehow fallen. she had a pretty big gash on her ankle. I did a general assessment, I told people what to do and they not only listened, they were looking to me to tell them what to do. I told the book store manager to get me gloves, paper towels, 2 chairs and to call 911.
I checked for a pedal pulse and made sure the cut was shallow enough to not need pressure dressing, and from there I pretty much just talked to her and her daughter and kept them both calm, as well as giving my information to the security gaurd. It was such a good feeling to help them in a situation that must have been very scary for both the old woman and her husband, but that I stayed calm and knew exactly what to do to help.
I gave my phone number to the woman's daughter and asked her to call me and let me know what happened with her mother.
I slept a lot since then and was kind of depressed avoiding stuff sleeping, but I checked my voice mail and it was the old woman who had fallen and she told me she got stitches but was doing good and she thanked me and told me that she wanted to call my mother to tell her she had raised me right.
it felt ok to be me in that minute. more than ok, awesome.
and then i blinked.
and i'm me again. and i still don't feel enough.

I hate that feeling. Like no matter how much good you do, you don't feel it's enough. Just need to try and psych yourself out of it. That's what I do. Although it does result in me talking to myself alot. LOL

Good for you for being a good semeritan though

Good on you!!!!

See, I knew you are the type who receive a sense of worth and love by doing....

keep doing this... but don't be afraid of asking for what your truly worth. Doing both will probably help your depression and your physical health.
