So my best friend's, Adam, birthday was on Sunday.. and as this is an important day to me I feel I should touch on the subject. However since I don't really have much to report I will share with you a story of our shenagins.

So.. When I was 16 I got a keg and alot of rum for my birthday from my sister (whom I was living with at the time). Now while that night has many many stories to it, this story does not take place on that night. This was just the introduction.

The following week Adam was still staying at my house deciding when he would drive back to New Hampshire. Meanwhile we were still drinking (quite heavily) because Adam and I were champs. We woke up at 8am and filled our bowl's with Bacardi, because well.. Everything tastes better from a bowl and our cups with beer, afterwards we preceeded to drink the day away.

Later that night after everyone else had passed out, Adam and I continued to drink and pass time playing Quarters. Since we had been sitting most of the day we were still 'kind-of' sober and we decided to get up and make food.

Well, we took about two steps past our table and fell immediatley to the floor. We were to drunk to walk once the blood was allowed to get anywhere near pumping.

So, starving and drunk, Adam and I lay on that floor staring at the refrigator. After much discussion we decided that it was beyond our grasp to get food that way and we needed other means to our end.

... and then we spotted it, a box of Goldfish.

However, we still couldn't move.. So we formulated a plot. We were going to start with our shoes and throw our clothes at this godsend until it spilt its sweet goodies onto us.

After sometime (drunks have no track of time but it was quite a bit) there was success! and Adam and I sat there on my linoleum floor half dressed & scrapping our tongues against the floor to lick up Goldfish for a few hours.

This was just one night and not even a very interesting one as far as our nights went.. But I remember it very fondly.

Adam changed my life in so many ways and I will never in my life forget him. Let alone thank him enough. Almost every decent quality I possess is in someway thanks to him and his love of life. Showing me (and so many others) that there is happiness out there even when it gets dark.

.. My best friend died January 9th, 2001.

I think I get sader today then on the day he died because more of me mourns his death today and more of me celebrates his life on that one. This may sound backwards but sometimes things need to be confusing to make the most sense.

Im going to end tonight with one of Adam's poems. I hope you enjoy.

When I was small I flew once
Built up speed and caught the wind
And just flew
No one believes me but I did
There was nothing to tell me I couldn't
Soon after, I began to discover
That the more I learned, the more I grew
The less I could remember what it felt like
To glide across the yard
Now recently, I have been remembering my flight
I would give anything to be free again
But of course it's impossible
The adult brain is filled with laws, rules, formulas
But once when I was small I flew
No one believed me but I did

I feel the same way about my best friend. She has taught me so much and been a huge influence on who I am today, I can barely fathom the type of person I would be without her love and support. I feel lucky everyday that I have her and I think that love and compassion and selflessness is a feeling that alot of people only wish they could have. It's beautiful. You're beautiful. : )
