Imminent
imnenenent'
About to occur; impending: in imminent danger.
Now nine times out of ten the word imminent has some sort of negative stigma attached to it and quite frankly thats the example i would like to talk about here in my 3 a.m. rant.
Imminent disappointment
This is a depressing way to look at things but here we go. have you ever had one of those situations you didn't want to end. You know you have, it was a kiss or a car ride or a good book, whatever the point is you wanted that fraction of time to last forever. Well guess what? Your fucked, that instance will end. The end is in fact imminent.
Imminent failure
I was engaged a few years ago, the women I had every intention on being wed to had a change of heart... or did she? my relationship with Steph started in 1997 when i moved from NYC to Cape Cod, ma. Quite the adjustment I assure you. I moved in with step and her parents, I stayed in the basement apartment and with the exception of a single cricket I never found it was a pretty pleasant couple of years. The summer of 1999 I started to plan a engagement fiasco. I bought a ring (solitary 1.5 carat diamond) and tucked it aside to pop the question on new ears eve 2000 Year Y2K one problem she want going to say yes. For Christmas I was taking her to my family in upstate NY with an impromptu trip to NYC far the ball drop on new years. Well during this car ride she wigged out a little and basically said she was too young to get married and promised me not to put her in that situation until she was ready. I didn't ask her on new years. i wound up waiting until December 2003. She dumped me in the winter of 2005. Even if we had gotten married, it's failure would have been imminent
Imminent Threat
This is a good one, You are hearing it a lot in the news this last 5 years or so...
"We ended the threat from Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction."
President Bush, 7/17/03
"Saddam Hussein is no longer a threat to the United States because we removed him, but he was a threat...He was a threat. He's not a threat now."
President Bush, 7/2/03
"Absolutely."
White House spokesman Ari Fleischer answering whether Iraq was an "imminent threat," 5/7/03
Now I steer clear of politics i was just pointing out the power of the word imminent here. The fact is we dropped the ball here folks these three quotes and the desire to keep the savage homosexuals from taking marriage away from all the straight people put President George W. Bush back in office, fair and square.
Imminent happiness???
Can it be? Can anyone dare to expect to be happy? I hope so. But what will it take? I mean we are a few years from the next election and "Dollar and a Dream" would almost fill your gas tank nowadays so much for a quick fix.
The sad truth however is its a safer bet that you wont stay happy if you are and if something seems too good to be true. it probably is to good to be true. but regardless of everything thats imminent and everything that is uncertain. one thing will wont ever change. You are still gonna hope that that kiss, that car ride, that good book will last forever.
