Can't wait to DJ at Beauty Bar this Friday... I'm doing an hour of yacht rock that's probably going to end with Andrew Gold's Thank You For Being a Friend or Dusty Springfield's As Long As We Got Each Other.... Golden Girls and Growing Pains are battling it out for the top spot. I mean on one hand Thank You For Being a Friend is like the closest you can get to a single ladies type anthem (Fuck single ladies btw) when you're playing smooth music.... But As Long As We Got Each Other is like the Don't Stop Believing of yacht rock as far as I'm concerned.
I usually spin by ear and don't do much programming but I've been having a hard time mixing Yacht Rock... The songs are definitely not dj friendly unless you're looking for a sample. I just decided to pull alot of songs that I really like and then try different mixing things to see what sticks and what meshes well together... I also spent some cash on a yacht captains hat.
I don't expect it to go over huge since it's an "hipster" dance club but I really don't give two shits for the people that frequent that fucking bar or the people who work there because they're huge assholes. Not saying everyone who goes there sucks, I've met alot of awesome people there buuuuttt 90%.. Fuck 7th street.
