This past weekend was [info]aethyric's birthday weekend, and we indulged in many festive endeavors. The theme of the weekend seemd to have something to do with Broadway. We saw two stellar national touring shows, ate some delicious food, and had a visit with my parents.

Friday evening I worked on music with Mike and came up with a few good ideas. I didn't expect to get started early, but stuff at work ran late and I didn't get home until after 6:30. After a bite and a bit of relaxation I got started on some recording. I've found this collection of loops all made with household items. These beats are composed entirely of a combination of things like plastic tubs, buckets, silverware, glasses, bowls, etc.

Mike didn't show up til after 10pm, which is kinda late to get started even on Friday. But I had gotten some things down already and he commenced putting a bass track to what I had been working on.

Saturday, Aethy and I drove to Indianapolis and had a visit with my father who is in the hospital recovering from a surgery to remove infection. He seemed in good spirits, especially when we brought
out the Thin-Mints(tm) that we bought on the way up. Yum.

After that, we got my mother and went out to dinner at my favorite Italian restaurant- Bravo. Sure, it's a chain, but their food is damn good! Aethy chose it for her birthday dinner and I was quite excited to have the chance to stuff my face with some Pasta Diavolo. The main reason she wanted Bravo, though, was the creme brulee. Mmmmmmmm.

After dinner we went downtown for her surprise. The Murat Theater was hosting the national touring company of Hairspray. Wow! What a fun show. The music, the cast, the stage design, were all simply top-notch. The show was soooo much fun. I'm glad Waters had a hand in the developement of the broadway version of his movie. The show has his kitsch-y touch. The cast was just phenomenal...if you get a chance, go see this show. You won't regret it.

After a sleepy drive back to Bloomington, we crashed hard. What a luxurious sleep we had- staying in bed til 12:30 the next day. Ahhhhh...lazy Sundays are such a treasure. I got to do some reading, some lazing, some playing, and then, when we started to wake up a bit more, we called our pal Russ to meet for breakfast at the Village Deli.
