WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A proposed constitutional amendment to outlaw the burning of the American flag won the approval on Tuesday of a Senate Judiciary Committee (news - web sites) split largely along party lines.
Geezus! Are we ever going to get past the whole flag burning thing? Every five years like clockwork they bring this issue up and, to me, it's beyond stupid. The flag is an symbol. It's not America itself. It's not those things like flags that matter, it's the meaning behind those things. Don't worship the flag, pay heed to what it stands for. I mean, this isn't rocket science, folks. I repeat-These are symbols, not the things themselves. I can't even begin to fathom the brainlessness of someone that wants to protect our symbol for freedom by curtailing our freedom surrounding that very symbol.
