this day has gone by and i haven't left my house. partially because of the snow and partially because i let myself stay in bed until 1pm. my goal this week is to try to get into the spirit of winter. instead of letting the dull gray death of winter bring me down, i'm going to admire it's somewhat tragic beauty. this snow today was beautiful to watch as it fell, but i didn't pay as close attention as i could have. i was too worried about how cold the house is feeling. i really wish the glass would stop being half empty to me.

speaking of winter fun....

Fun With Penguins

---------------------

i watched the entire Neverwhere series on dvd today. it's a BBC series based on neil gaiman's first full-length novel of the same name. let me just say that i bet the book is well written but it just didn't work as a tv show. maybe if they'd had a bigger budget it would've been okay. the acting wasn't bad but the fact that it was shot on video killed it for me. it's very difficult to get any sort of fantastical or magic look on video. everything is just too crisp and too real to seem like anything but a soundstage. and the story, at least as a television show, seemed lacking. i kept getting the feeling that there was more to these characters than the one dimension we saw in the show. but i got them from netflix and i was snowed in and now i can send both discs back and get some new movies!
i'm looking forward to (next in my cue):
-Spellbound, which has a "short wait", so i probably won't get it. i think they should put movies on the very top of your list when they transfer from the "dvds awaiting release" section. i saw Spellbound for sale at Target last night and logged onto netflix to find it at the bottom of my cue.
-Gregory's Girl, a movie they used to show on HBO constantly when i was a kid. it's been years since i've seen it and it will bring back some good memories. it was from roughly the same time period as nickelodeon's the tomorrow people. i believe it's irish. anyone else remember this movie?
-Wild Strawberries, i've been slowly trying to work my way through bergman's stuff. this guy was just a superb filmmaker who knew how to translate more than just a story through the medium.

so anyone have some film recommendations? keep in mind i watch a lot of movies.
also, what movie have you seen that deeply affected you during and/or afterward?

i'll start...
i saw it alone and i walked out of the theatre confused, sad, and enchanted when i saw dancer in the dark. eraserhead also had that effect on me.
