So, big news...
I've decided that I have to leave this fucking shitty hell-hole of a town and actually do something with my life. I'm sick of sitting around having nothing to do except go to work (a thankless job) and occasionally drive up to Olean for something to do. I want to be part of something bigger than myself, to help people who really need it. So, two days ago, I signed up to be a worker for AmeriCorps. For those of you who don't know, AmeriCorps is a domestic Peace Corps. Workers sign up for year long projects in areas of the country and it's territories, and work full time improving the area.
So far, I have applications in for 5 different projects and considering a 6th.
1) working with inner city kids in Pheonix, AZ educationg them about gang life, and why o stay away from it.
2) working for the Red Cross in Franklin, WA doing stuff the Red Cross does, especially how to survive an unexpected disaster.
3) assisting the progrm director for Alabama A&M's community outreach programs.
4) writing and implimenting curriculums to educate adults with disabilities in Hilo, HI basic life skills and job skills.
5) doing community outreach in the inner city areas of Los Angeles of all different kinds.
and the possible 6th) Educating the people of Ketchikan, AK about HIV/AIDS awareness.
If all goes well, I'll be leaving on September 1st, (my 20th birthday!) at the latest. Based on the living allowance I'll get, I don't know if I'll be able to afford internet or many extra luxuries. But I'll enjoy what I'm doing so that's more important.
