First you have to research. I checked out average room rates in that area during that time period for 4 star accomodations. It was $236. Then I focused on what I wanted which was the Biltmore....$110 because of the 30th anniversary special. Then I read reviews and theres sucked balls. Outdated room accomodations despite the grandeur of the property itself.I'd feared that -as I had a simi;lar experiance in a hotel in Manhattan. The older ones have sooo much character and beauty, then you get to the room and your not comfortable and it's lacking the modern comforts and ammenities. Also the staff was flagged far too often for being rude and arrogant. I don't do either-I would have lit that place up had I been victim!!!!
Anyhow-armed with my information I went to Priceline to see what they had going on and then I decided that screw it all. Let's live dangerous and see what happens. Plugged in my dates and the star accomodations and the location i wanted and offered $70. No match. I should have worked in the $2.00 range from there but I was impatient and offered$80. Marriott dinged.
I wanted a suite and I wasn't paying for one...so I envisioned I was in one for a week. Now I know that you have 30 seconds to impress a stranger. When I travel I make sure to dress the way I want to be perceived. When I travel I always want to be perceived as intelligent, confident, and well off. I also give th air of been there so don't fuck with me.
Reason-I got to the hotel a day late...very early morning-usually that's when the worst accomodations are available. Best are late night which is when I was supposed to arrive. I get in tired but dressed to the nine-the women states and I have doubles for you, there are no kings available. I simply said, Really??? I would have loved a king. She looked at me for a second, continued what she was doing instructed me to the elevator and to hit the PH when I got on it. NEVER even said that she put me in a suite. Complete surprise when I got up there. So when I checked out several days later, I had the same girl. she remembered who I was when I got to the desk. So i tipped her $20. Win win. she took care of me and I took care of her.
Confidence and knowledge in whatever you trying to negotiate and most things are negotiable!!!! Best class I have ever taken I swear the confidence and insight are priceless...and I still giggle about the room!
