today's weather is as nice as the weather was shitty the other day...and i finally got some sleep...i have been working in the studio a lot lately trying to get some work in shape for the NOVA show at the end of the month...probably my 2 biggest influences right now are japanese prints (Hokusai, Hiroshige) and punk rock flyers...and i realized lately that i have no reverence or respect for "ART" or the art market...i think a lot of the work that is considered contemporary is shite...just one big case of the emperor's(sp?) new clothes...i use cheap materials and have no consideration for "archival" concerns... my interest is to make something beautiful and poetic out of mean materials and imagery...just paper and pencils and ink and brush and old black and white photographs...this attitude will never get me into a gallery, it's true...i had a friend who runs a gallery in chicago come out to my studio a few weeks ago and he basically told me so...but that is a separate story...
