finally friday again...most of my life before grad school i've had union jobs or jobs in industries where the 40 hrs you work is very random (restaurant, warehouse, etc.)...so "friday" never meant to me what it apparently meant to everybody else...until now. having a cubicle job, friday has become the light at the end of the tunnel...the signifier for sleeping, spending time with my son, getting to spend multiple hours in the studio, laying on the couch, etc... it's gotten so i can't concentrate on fridays...i don't get anything done...i should just start taking fridays off because i am useless...

my sister is coming out to the south side tonight, we are probably going to a few of the irish bars on western for some pints...we both get a little kooky around this time of year because of the south side st. patrick's day parade (less than a month away)...we have been going to it for about 20 years now, my buddies from high school have been meeting on the same corner for almost 20 years...if you grew up there or know anyone who did, you understand...about a quarter of a million people descend on a basically quiet irish catholic neighborhood...everybody has parties, you wander around the neighborhood drinking, hanging around with your friends, and stopping by the houses of friends and family...i just get itchy around this time every year...it's a little different now that i am a 'pater familias', but that's not a bad thing, it just means the police are less likely to interfere with my celebrating because i am now a solid citizen...plus all my friends form high school are chicago cops anyway...
