i have to say that i have not laughed as hard as i did watching the Colbert Report tonight as he badmouthed Canton, SD, again in a good while. i used to live just 15 minutes on the other side of the SD/Iowa border from Canton, and i heartily endorse his statements on the town. especially because people really didn't defend it. i heartily recommend you go watch the segment on the Comedy Central site for it, but if you're lazy, here's what the "defense" mounted by people amounted to (in general)
a 15 year old commented "You can go bowling. You can go swimming. That's about it."
or a local photojournalist's comment "Canton is not a place where i'll run into tons of opportunity to improve my career."
