from toddpnyc.com:

It is with a lot of grief and weariness that I announce that this weekends shows with DMBQ and friends show were cancelled following a tragic car accident involving the members of DMBQ.

Please direct any donations to benefit to help cover DMBQs and Michelle Panaches travel and medical expenses to the following address via PayPal: dmbqpanache@lovepumpunited.com

DMBQs van rolled from I-95 in Southern New Jersey en route from Baltimore to Brooklyn on Friday. All members of the band as well as Michelle Cable from Panache Magazine and booking, who has been managing their tour, have been hospitalized in Delaware and New Jersey.

Mana China Nishiura did not survive the accident. China was DMBQs drummer, as well as a former drummer in Shonen Knife. China will be missed.

Michelle Cable is conscious following surgery for a head injury. She also sufferred an injury to her back and neck which will keep her in the hospital in for an extended amount of time and put her in a brace for awhile after, but she is expected to recovery completely. She is being treated in The Memorial Hospital of Salem County, New Jersey. Michelle has no health insurance.

The other members of DMBQ are all fine after being treated for minor injuries at Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware. Shinji Masuko was discharged from the hospital on Sunday morning. Toru Matsui and Ryuichi Watanabe were discharged on Saturday.

Thats all the information I have.

Turnpike crash kills 1, injures 4

CARNEYS POINT TWP. A three-vehicle accident on the New Jersey Turnpike Friday afternoon left one person dead and four others injured, state police said.

Police said at 12:51 p.m. Friday a black Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by Sara Jacobi, 22, of Mount Vail was headed northbound on the turnpike near mile marker 0.3.

For an unknown reason Jacobi, who was driving in the left lane, went onto the left shoulder of the turnpike, cut back to the right and went into the center lane, police said.

Police said Jacobi struck the left rear side of a Ford Econoline van.

The van, with five people inside, slid and tumbled several times landing in a clearing to the side of the turnpike, police said.

Police said one person was ejected from the van and pronounced dead at the scene by the Salem County Medical Examiner.

Three of the passengers were sent to Christiana Hospital in Stanton, Del., and one passenger was sent to The Memorial Hospital of Salem County police said.

One of the passengers was in serious condition and in surgery Friday afternoon. The other three passengers had minor to moderate injuries, police said.

Police said Jacobi sustained no injuries.

Police said after the van tumbled it hit a truck that was stopped on the side of the road but, no injuries and little damage occurred from that impact to the truck.

Police were unable to release the names of the victims in the van until next of kin had been notified.

The accident remains under investigation.

None of the bands Friday nor I felt up to a rock show following the news. We continued with Saturdays show @ Kingsland Tavern in memoriam and as a benefit to cover DMBQs travel and medical expenses.

Thank you for your support and your understanding.

Todd

this sucks. i just saw them in philly. the crowd held china and her drum kit and she played floating above us. she looked like an angel up there. a from what i've read, the other dmbq members have been treated and released, and michele (their toure manager) has no health insurance and just got out of surgery. send them your rent money.
