An old flame who broke my heart 8 years ago got married yesterday. I'm pretty happy for them. They've been on and off for 8 years.
On the other hand, weddings can make me feel pretty fucked up and depressed. It's like there's this level of connection and happiness that other people achieve that I never get to.
I've also been thinking that I self...

Nate and Jill got married. Killer & I traded notes on who've we slept with there. There was a hipster wedding band and an afterparty. All my freefloating relationship anxiety sat next to me and had it out.
Today, I walked by a three hundred person soup line waiting outside a church next to an empty building advertising luxury condos for sale.
rodan:
Smidge Ironic, I'd say.
Not to mention how long it'll take the "luxury condo" dwellers to NIMBY the soup line folk.

We want a hiphop pope! We're tired of having a pope on a rope. Now we want a pope that's dope!
scrapple:
Let's revitalize the church with orginal beats and real lives mcs!
scrapple:
Are you kidding? Have you seen those outfits? You had your gay pope.
When I was a teenager in the projects on the edge of the college town of Ann Arbor, MI., I listened to the university licensed radio station WCBN-FM which played Dead Kennedys singer Jello Biafras spoken word albums constantly. As I washed the dishes in our tiny kitchen, I heard every comedic detail of the obscenity trial and every trivial factoid about Tipper Gore's crusade...

My mother is manicmanicmanic. A few weeks ago, when she met me after the training in Livonia, she had barely gotten out of the bed in weeks. We ate at a Coney Island in a forgotten mall in the decaying ring of Detroit suburb. The waitresses were amazed at the bounty of my 15% percent tip when they were used to getting a dollar.

It's Saturday. I'm listening to a mixtape and try to get ahold of friends.
I went to New York Thursday night to Gypsymania. Hutz from GogolBordello spun balkan brass mixed over oldschool ska at The Bulgarian Bar. There were big bottles of eastern european lager and a lot of fucking dancing and people.

Tape? What's that? I think I have some vague memories of listening to tapes once...
Actually, I have a bunch of mixed tapes from friends that I never listen to anymore, primarily because I no longer have a tape player. Somehow mixed CDs just aren't as nostalgic as mixed tapes. They take me back to the college and highschool days.
Laurie Anderson, by the way, is an amazing artist.

I'm going to be in Illinois for 4 days starting Thursday morning. I'll be working long days, but give me a shout if you're around there.

Thanks for the comment.

I'm listening to Hunky Dory for the 500th time. I'm thinking about a bunch of personal stuff that came up at an organizer training. I'm in Michigan for 2 more days.
I'm not sure about sites in philly that have some creepy association with past US presidents and other politicians, but the Divine Lorraine had that cult association which I'm sure you know about... 12th or 11th sts housed former slaves as a part of the underground railroad ( and there is an informative historical marker on 12th i think)... lucretia mott lived near tyler on old york rd (also a marker there)...
i feel like this is my only way of connecting with ms vowell...
