Well it's safe to say that i was pissed for my last entry! Woohoo I haven't lost my job or gone part-time amd my typing was damn good for someone two thirds through a Cab Merlot

Werk is boring I would rather bring up the disturbing issue of Music DVD's. I own 4:

And All that Could have Been - NIN (watched numerous times)
Live from Blank Canvas - The Music
(watched once)
Soulmates Never Die - Placebo
(watched once)
Live from Faraway Stables - Silverchair
(never watched)

I LOVE live music it's my favourite thing in the world. Nothing like getting out and seeing some talented people bring a room together with song and maybe having a bit of dance.

Unfortunately you completely miss out on this feeling on DVD. There's no pre-show drinks, no getting ready, no meeting up with friends! You sit on the couch and watch, where's the fun?

I think thats why And All That Could Have Been is one of the best music DVD's I've seen (not hard i've only sat down and watched 3!) Simply because it's awesomely edited and shot and it's all a complete mish mash of their shows on the V 2.0 tour, not to mention a fantastic live album.

Placebo's is from Paris (does it really matter where you film it since all entertainment venues look the same over a certain capacity level.) Brian Molko does spend a good deal of time repeating everything he just said in French in English. Which makes me think they probably knew it was being taped and therefore didn't want to alienate their English speaking audience. Isn't that the purpose of subtitles on dvd's?!

Live at Blank Canvas probably the worst out of the lot! not only is the performance cut up between interviews with the lads, there's no way to avoid this!! There is technology out there to avoid this ie Watch Performance Only or Watch Interviews Only menu options.

It's not really an audio visual experience either because these have been designed for the audience not for your TV. Unless your Cornelius of course but then even that needs Surround Sound for you to completely appreciate them.

I think maybe the answer to this issue I am having with music DVD's is to have a cinema release's of them. For instance Closure - NIN is finally coming to DVD (lets all pray for a Region 4 release for those of us that have regionally challenged DVD players.) If that was on at the cinema it's highly likely that I would go numerous times to see it at the cinema for the experience. The cinema experience would also encourage aspects of the Live Music experience.

So you take away from ths blatantly loooong entry about what Music DVD's I own and what's wrong with them so therefore ALL Music DVD's must suck! If anyone knows of decent one with music I'd enjoy I'd like to know about it. Better yet if you run a cinema and like my idea let's talk!

Music dvd's or videos from shows that you actually attended are the greatest thing ever, they make you remember the feeling from being there. They need to film more Australian tours for dvds.
