I feel like shit today. Complete and utter shit. I'm dizzy. I'm exhausted. I feel like puke. I have to install a centralized anti-virus solution today, so I can't go home, as I'm the only one here who can do that.

The fact that I have no real job security, no place to move up in the company, no real future with it, recently had my hours of work increased from a minimum of 37.5 to a minimum of 44 per week without compensation, yet am considered "too important" to be allowed to take a day off when I feel like utter tapioca pisses me off to no end.

Oh, and as of two minutes ago, I just passed 110 hours for this pay period.

I guess it's not all bad. At least I get to surf this at work instead of just sitting here all day watching endless progress bars crawl across a screen for hours on end, listen to endless complaints from end users about how this or that isn't working ("have you tried turning the monitor on?"), and getting yelled at by everyone from the summer interns to the senior VPs because company policy forbids them from using peer-to-peer software and I won't install it on their machines.

That's what I used to do. Just sit there monitoring server loads, remote installing updates, coding server side crap, maintaining systems... actually it's more like this:

Sysadmin Job Description:

To know everything about computers, business, training, programming and hardware support and do everything, including forecast 5-15 years into the future. Should have at least completed grade school equivalency. Have 10 years or more network experience with 20+ years of computer experience. Needs CNE certification. Be willing to work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Must be willing to work for starvation wages and feel privileged to be able to work with all of the equipment. Must be trustworthy, honest, kind and above all thrifty. Must understand overtime is a luxury "we can not afford." Should be able to write 30 pages of documentation for every 10 minutes of installation work (spending no more than 10 minutes doing this documentation). Requires an even temperament, realizing that the LAN Manager is a servant to all, master of none. Should be able to learn any software package in 10 minutes, so as to perform a one day training seminar scheduled for NOW. Must be willing to work in a converted closet with no windows or ventilation. Must be willing to wear a beeper to the bathroom. Must commit to giving a minimum of one year's notice before leaving.

I found that a when I started this job and saw that my contract had nothing filled in the Job Description area. It's pretty close to accurate.

I won't be here much today, but I'd like you all that leave comments here to know how much I appreciate them.

I look at my "friends" list and think "these people kick major ass... they really do..."

You guys rock. Yes, yes, you do.
