Switched server hardware today. After a week of preparation, I transferred all the databases from one server to another, with all of 15 minutes of downtime. Estimate from Management was one full business day.

All I got from Management was a "yeah, k, so we want you to get started on that java interface now..."

Hey, where are my props? Where's the obligatory pat on the back? Where's the "good job, monkey"?

Nothin'. Nada. Squat. Ech. Bastards. I take a week off and the whole network falls to shit, and I get a bunch of people yelling and screaming at me. I get the database up and running on new hardware in the time it takes them to get a coffee and I get nothin',

If I can't have a raise, I at least want some credit when I get things done in less time than they imagined.

There's an old saying: never do a bad job well.

Obviously, that's true.

Back day today. Have to think of a new location for that chinning bar. It's current location in the basement under the stairs leading to the second floor ain't working out. I pulled-up too hard last week and cut my head open on one of the stairs. don't really feel like doing that again this week.

Property assessments come from the city this week as well. I'm dreading it. Property values in our area jumped 5% from the time we signed the purchase agreement to now. Our house is estimated at being worth 30 to 40 grand more than what we paid. The taxes will be painful.

a liquor store might not be too bad. not one on 17th, no, but then i just don't want to work on 17th period. smile everything's expensive, and i'd constantly be spending money on breaks. well... no, there are some places on 17th i'd work at. tongue like blue light special.
