I never thought I'd get to being okay with being single. Rather, I never thought I'd be okay with being divorced before 30, and reconcile the feelings of betrayal with the sense that ultimately, this is the better thing for the rest of my life. But to quote my dad (who is wise if not tactful,) "at least she took off before you knocked her up." He has a point-- I could be a dad; I don't think I could be a single dad.

Okay, new job, pros and cons:

    PRO:
  • I'll nearly double my current paycheck in about a year, officially earning "grown-up pay"

  • Free medical

  • Training's only five T stops from my house. I have a nothing commutesmile

  • The people I'm with are almost all cool. It's also turned out to be kind of a divorce-support group, since nearly everyone either got divorced or went though a nasty break-up recently (the one newlywed is still cool, though.)

  • This job does not involve a cash register.

    CONS:
  • When done with training, I'll be dragging my ass up to Andover ever day, which is on the wrong side of the city(although it's in faint's neighborhood, so I'll be bugging her a bit.)

  • An 8am start means a 5:30 wake-up. Not so bad for some people, but I assure you, I am NOT a morning person.

  • I will be in a fucking call center, which means I'll be happy about listening to people's service issues with a fake smile and condescending tone in my voice for hours on end. And, despite the aforementioned absence of a cash register, I'm still in sales.

So it's a job with great rewards for work which is physically easy, but soul-sucking nonetheless. I'm jumping at the first chance to get into the tech end, where I deal with computers more than people. Until then, I'll just have to start having better weekends.
