So, like an absolute loser, bored out of my mind, I randomly drove to Seattle and went to this karaoke bar on first and denny. I found it a couple of nights back with some friends, and initially we had the intent of hitting the joint up and singing. (Well, them singing and me wishing.) But I of course, I got distracted with uh, some company, and we wound up at some other joint on first.
Back history: I used to sing jazz. I had a scholarship. My voice wasn't developed to it's potential, but I certainly had a gigantic range ( 3 and a half octaves) and it bottomed on the contra alto/tenor end of the spectrum. It, with the right savvy, was sexy - the unfortunate part was that I didn't realize it until it was gone. I had my tonsils taken out a couple of years back and now I have a "new" instrument that I'm deathly afraid of. I haven't performed in front of anyone is ages.
Back to the bar: I'm by myself and scouring over a book of artists for like an hour. With some liquid courage from the bar next store (mnages trios!), I managed to turn in a request and sing something. I did Stevie Nick's "Stop Dragging My Heart Around" with the karaoke host and we killed it! We had people totally cheering us on. It was SO AWESOME!
Awesome enough that I had a couple of people encourage me to enter this karaoke contest that's this Friday to qualify and compete in the world karaoke competition. SCARY! If you make it you compete it state, then go to Vegas, THEN FINLAND! WTF! REALLY?! I doubt I would get that far, but goodness! I would be so happy if I even qualified. It'd definitely mean that I got over my fear of singing in public again.
