In my nomadic life, there are many things and many people I have left behind.

Moving from place to place I have developed a system of what I should take, and what should stay.

The people in my life are much the same as library books. My mind and my life are made richer by them, yet I know they are not mine to keep. I simply learn from them, and carry them in my heart forever. It is, after all, an impossibility to be with the ones I love.

My posessions are much the same way....... I do not hold on to things the way most people do. I carry what is useful and most portable, leaving what is cumbersome or unecessary.

I have found that this is most distressing when it comes to my books. I have bought thousands of books over the years, and have given them away to anyone who cared enough to accept them. While it is a wonderful and poetic thing to leave knowledge wherever I go, it is bittersweet. Most often, my books were then only constant in my turbulent life, and many times the only friends I had were the one-sided characters between the pages.

Today, I am nostalgic for the comic collection I left behind. I would love to revisit the epic battles of the Silver and Bronze Age Marvel heroes and villians, the stories that saved me during my childhood. Most of all, though, I miss the smell and feel of the dry, inky pages.....

Maybe I can start another collection... I might live here for a while..................

I know whenever i pick up a book that has been given or left for me i think of the person who gave it. Thats one of the reasons i love giving away books.

Lovely blog.
