Every time I visit my parents, their next-door neighbors always try to set me up with their daughter. Given that I've never met their daughter, it's something of a difficult task to agree to marry her. I'm hoping her mother was drunk last night when she lazily interrogated me about my age, job, and life's ambitions. I was thoroughly convinced she was drunk when she asked me point blank to marry her daughter, and then proceeded to give a speech on the finer points of arranged marriages. Having noticed the daughter in question had only made a brief appearance that evening and disappeared just as quickly, I could only grimace and shrug my shoulders in response to her inquiries. I felt like asking if either of us had any say in this supposed arranged marriage, but instead I continued to shrug mutely. The next day my father joked that if I'd have said yes, there'd have been a preacher there within the hour. But something tells me he wasn't really joking. Egads.

That encounter made me think: I'm getting close to the end of my 3rd decade, but I don't feel like settling down just yet. I feel like there's so much out there I want to experience before I commit myself... To anything. So yes, I'll agree to meet their daughter, but I make no guarantees of anything beyond... and certainly not marriage... not for a long, long time.

Crazy old drunkards...
