I'm moving!

I've finally made a decision, and it's really pretty hard to stick with it, but I'm moving to Austin. It's gonna kill me to leave my niece and nephew behind, we're so close, so I may end up back here if I can't convince my brother and sister-in-law to follow me down. But I hate winter. I hate it sooooo much. And if I don't leave now, I never will. If I keep waiting for a reason, it'll never happen.

Ok, so reality check. I'm brokety broke broke. How am I gonna afford this? No really, I'm looking for ideas. I looked into renting a moving van, and it's like a grand at least to get one from St Paul down to Austin. So then I looked at buying a crappy van, and found a few for around $700. If it survives the trip, I can trade it in for a real vehicle once I get there. All I really need is my mattress (as far as large items), and Google seems to think a queen size will fit in most mini vans.

Job sauce. Economy's better there, so I'm banking on finding a better paying job asap once I get down there. Though I can probably do a store transfer and at least have my current shitty paying job waiting for me down there.

But there's the issue of rent. Roommates.com has a few people with rent less than $400 a month, but I figure that plus security plus food and utilities for a month we're still talking like a grand of change I should have in hand.

My lap is only worth about $600, I could part with it, but only because Dell will give me credit and get me a new one. And thus sort of defeating the point, because I'd buy some monstrosity that costs double triple that. Cause that's how I do. I don't really have much else of value.

So ok, bottom line, how do I come up with 2 grand so that I can go down to Austin?

So how're the escape plans? The thaw is going to make you complacent, and then 8 months from now you're going to get stuck here for another winter. (Story of my life?)

I've got a tentative move date of Sept 1st, with a definite deadline of Oct 1st for myself. I do love the summers here, but I think since I told my boss that I'm transferring, I'm sort of stuck with that decision, regardless of thawing complacency. Wanna move with me? I'll need a roomie and doesn't sound like you want to get stuck here another winter either. It'll be like quitting smoking buddies, we'll motivate each other to get our shit together by then. kiss
