This is NOT good enough, Barack:

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

Barack Obama, U.S. Senator (D-IL), stated in a Mar. 22, 2008 interview with Gary Nelson, Editorial page editor for the Oregon newspaper Mail Tribune:

"When it comes to medical marijuana, I have more of a practical view than anything else. My attitude is that if it's an issue of doctors prescribing medical marijuana as a treatment for glaucoma or as a cancer treatment, I think that should be appropriate because there really is no difference between that and a doctor prescribing morphine or anything else. I think there are legitimate concerns in not wanting to allow people to grow their own or start setting up mom and pop shops because at that point it becomes fairly difficult to regulate.

I'm not familiar with all the details of the initiative that was passed [in Oregon] and what safeguards there were in place, but I think the basic concept that using medical marijuana in the same way, with the same controls as other drugs prescribed by doctors, I think that's entirely appropriate.

I would not punish doctors if it's prescribed in a way that is appropriate. That may require some changes in federal law. I will tell you that...the likelihood of that being real high on my list is not likely. What I'm not going to be doing is using Justice Department resources to try to circumvent state laws on this issue simply because I want folks to be investigating violent crimes and potential terrorism. We've got a lot of things for our law enforcement officers to deal with."

Do you really have a practical view? Really? I don't think so. You weaseled your way in and around that one. Blanket us with complacency.. "I don't think this should be..." and then whisper in our ear before we fall asleep.. "but I'm not going to do anything about it".

WAKE UP

WAKE UP WAKE UP

They are denying safe treatment to hundreds of thousands of people all across this nation. In the few states where patients can obtain quality medicine legally, federal agents - the kinds with guns - raid and hassle providers AND DOCTORS. The argument that taking the initiative to change the paperwork will use up Justice System resources is bullshit. More resources are being used the way things are.

Incidentally,

THE WAY THINGS ARE = NOT OKAY

FORCING SICK PEOPLE WHO DON'T WANT THEIR BODIES PUMPED WITH CHEMICALS INTO ILLEGAL STREET MARKETS FOR THEIR CHOICE OF TREATMENT = NOT OKAY

MANDATORY SENTENCING FOR VICTIMLESS CRIME WHILE VIOLENT OFFENDERS ARE RELEASED ON PAROLE DUE TO OVERCROWDING = NOT OKAY

The lies of scandalous bigots in the early 20th century are perpetuated by the scare tactics of so-called "PUBLIC SERVANTS" in police uniforms. They're handed down at least 3 generations. I call it BRAINWASHING.

Politicians claim they "don't know enough" about the effects and ramifications of marijuana to know if it's beneficial. I'm sorry, but you can't tell me that this plant has been on this earth all of this time, outlasting however many civilizations is little-known. The research has been done over and over, but it continues to be CONCEALED so the LIES from the early, TAINTED experiments can be consumed. Stop bullshiting us for what you perceive to be our benefit. Like Americans haven't had their shit revised before?

People. You have got to be fucking joking. Is it REALLY okay to be satisfied with this type of answer? Is it REALLY okay to continue to elect Presidents who act like their highest education is "D.A.R.E."? Even citizens who do not use marijuana for any reason should be all about re-evaluating this issue. It's costly bureaucracy that regulates what should be wrapped up as a basic civil right (life, liberty, and the pursuit... heard of it?) . The War on Drugs can NEVER be won and the pigs who run it know it. If they win it, they're out of a job.

Someone needs to call them out on this. Real change that I can believe in can start right there.

Are you afraid to say "STOP HASSLING SICK PEOPLE, WORK ON SOMETHING ELSE", Barack?

I feel like I'm living in a mash-up of Catch 22 and 1984.

I personally feel it should be legal to grow your own whether for recreational purposes or medical. I need it for medicinal purposes due to my back injury. But that will never happen because no one makes any money off it.

Thanks. biggrin

Positivity works... there's a little yoga philosophy thing about people creating their own suffering. But I won't get into that now. blush
