the sister of the abandoned cat we took in over the winter lies dead in the road.
i didn't trap her too when i trapped the one we have, because then we'd have 5 STRAY CATS. that's 5 cats in one house (plus 2 dogs, 2 kids, and various short term rescues and re-habs). so, please,pleasepleaseplease, everyone reading this - spay and neuter your pets,orrrrr, and this is a revolutionary idea - don't even fucking get any animals if you do not plan to care for them until they die happy from old age. and (this is the part where people will disagree) keep your cats indoors. outdoor cats have drastically lower lifespans, and they also hunt local wildlife.
speaking of rescues, i have a looming bill for everyone's flea meds ($200) and the most recent cat's vet trip ($275) and this summer we need to spay three animals ($900).

No lie. I won't buy a pet, because I don't think owning an animal to keep one company is that cool an idea, but perhaps I should go down to the local animal shelter and find a cat. Indoor only, I hate losing pets due to random outdoor nonsense.
