i'm becoming a grumpy old atheist. the 'believer's' evangelical nature is getting under my skin. i see their insistence on their particular mythology as 'the way' to be more and more of a personal attack. my mantra currently- if someone tried to touch my body as much as they try to touch my soul, i'd be allowed to call the cops. i don't go door to door selling atheism. knock knock- hi! i'm your neighbor and i'd like to share the word of logic with you'. nor do i hand out pamphlets, or leave psalms on my voicemail, forcing you to listen to the word of god in order to leave a message. even the 'have a blessed day' shit is pissing me off. I'd prefer if they didn't teach my kids their religion, either - my kids are being raised to make their own decisions, based on common sense, and their own ethics, not what they are told to think. They are aware there are many cultures, (and i hope they are always exposed to the richness of all the world's cultures) and they know there are many mythologies, varying in relevance and acceptability and number of followers. but it is still, simply and at it's most basic - MYTHOLOGY. and people who bother me, lecture me, feel superior to me and attempt to create laws that govern and limit me, based on their own personal mythology ARE ASSHOLES> sanctimonious assholes, at that. religion is dying, i'm happy to see. at it's best, religion is a way to help the community and the world, and give peace and hope to it's followers. unfortunately, at it's worst, religion is most recognizable - the driving force behind fanaticism, war, oppression, atrocities and the pervasive feeling of superiority simply because your myth is 'the one true' myth. religion makes it ok to hate. i've always felt what others do is none of my business, and i've come to realize, the christers make it our business. it's up to us to ensure that the new method to control the masses ends up being logic, and not fear based.
