This last Sunday Cartoon Network showed and old episode of Space Ghost Coast To Coast. The Ramones were on it and my wife didn't wake me up-sigh-.Anywhoo Zorak (if you aren't familiar w/ the show knowing who zorak is still won't make you understand how cool this was) said the Ramones were his favorite band. The whole thing has prompted a Ramones binge on my part I haven't listened to much else since my wife told me about Space Ghost. I miss music that was this genuine and fun. People carry on about the strokes and even the white stripes as being the new Ramones.Bull fucking shit. Hey I can dig both those bands but it's not the same deal by a long shot. I think the problem w/ a lot of bands is that they don't really love music the love art or they love fashion. Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, Elvis, Black Sabbath ..these bands kicked you in the fucking nuts. The music came from the crotch and not the head. I miss that dammit.

Have you ever heard of Mainstream or the Top 40 Pop Charts? Well, that is the societal consensus as to what popular and good music is, that is why I think that bands like Current 93 are obscure.. Frankly, I don't give a fuck if you don't like them... Why don't you do a little experiment & ask random people on the street if they know who C93 is and then you'll know what I mean by obscure.

Well, speaking as one of the (*sigh*) older folks, I think there are at least two things going on.

First is a reflexive, youthful predilection to be contrary. Kind of the "What are you rebelling against?" "What have you got?" effect. I think that drives -in large part- many of the anti-globalization protesters as well their American self-hatred. It's hard to see how this drives the Carter lovefest we've seen, other than he's not the current president.

Second, most people in their 20's (and particularly those who have remained cloistered in universities) have formed opinions from that peculiar perspective. In many colleges the liberal orthodoxy goes unchallenged; freedom of speech does not protect conservative dissent. The natural tendency to be compassionate and trusting hasn't been tempered by life from another point of view.

I hate to come across as condescending; it's not my intention. I really enjoy the people around this site, more than most of my -aack- older contemporaries.

Oh, yeah. And the hot, nekkid chicks!
