Wow.....what a night!! 
The Thermals were excellent, even if the sound enginner couldn't get the vocals right. They played a blinding 20 song set that last about 40-45 minutes. Was down at the front for the most of it - and spent most of my time protecting a small girl from the crowd behind.
The thing is, the protective barrier at the front wasn't fix - it was simply a temporary crowd control barrier - the kind you get at road running events. Naturally, it kept on moving. So, there I was with my arms either side of the girl and my hands gripping onto the barrier pulling it back against the weight of 40 or 50 people piling into the back.
For the most part I managed it...but I got sidetracked when the girl started holding my hand...and other parts of me
I couldn't concentrate properly on holding the crowd back, and I was prepared for a sudden push when one of their popular tracks came on....well, the barrier just gave in, and my right hand was still attached to it when it hit the sound monitor in front of the singer. My fingers were getting crushed right on the knuckles. They were there for a good 15-20 seconds and I was in agony....I'm still trying to figure out exactly how they didn't break. They're pretty painful now, but they haven't bruised externally. Odd, but I'm glad. One handed typing is an option
Anyway, after that the crowd were a bit more restrained and this girl was getting feistier. She was toally gorgeous too. My mates were pretty envious.....despite the fact they've both got girlfriends!
The thing is, as soon as the band finished, she went over to her boyfriend!!!
Heh...oh well, it was fun while it lasted, and I was staying on a mates settee anyway....didn't want to get lost in a city I don't know!
I eventually hooked up with my mate that had driven up, and got a lift home. Rolling roads and a hangover don't really mix. I managed to keep it all in, but it was straight to bed as soon as I got home to sleep it off....
And its nightowl time again now.....
