'i must be dreaming.
i don't know if you are near me when i speak.
electrocute it. wanna be a cherry tree.
spreading angel hair in the alley.
spirit parade every sunday.
i dream ridiculous implausible.'
first - thanks, iron for the way cool new profile pic... i'm working on resizing it so that i can get a little more of it in there, but... damn if people's journals haven't absorbed my entire fucking morning! that's cool, though...
um, caught Southern Culture on the Skids last night, albeit just barely... lol... stumbled home to take a nap, 'cause my ass was tired, and didn't wake up 'til 9... might not have even woken up then, but my phone rang, thank the goddess... so, i was in that total apathetic 'should i go' phase, when i realized i might as well, i was already awake... (am i really getting this old? lol) got dressed, hauled my sorry ass down there in the snow (got a great parking spot, though!
). didn't get there 'til sometime after 10 - paid my $15 and wandered in - opening band was still playing - perfect.
something a little odd... this show was at The Bluebird here in town, which is a fairly good-sized converted old movie theatre, but one of the, for lack of a better term, 'dirtier' of the larger venues in town. well, this show was apparently part of some Jameson's All Access thingamabob or whatever... so - walk in, hand over my ticket, get handed a wooden nickel for a drink (nice! this is a part of merchandising i can get behind) and an 'all access pass' - which is this laminated thing on a Jameson's lanyard - apparently i have to find the girl with the black light (who happens to be waiting conveniently by the bar) who will check to see if i've won anything. i didn't but the prizes were more wooden nickels and Jameson's tee shirts and the usual schwag.
the show was also sponsored by
KCUV 1510am, the best radio station in Denver by far - and yes, you can listen on the web, and you should. i did get a tee from them
opening band was the paybacks., who i hadn't heard of before, but were good. i wasn't at all moved to buy a cd, but they were energetic and great live - excellent opening band; they did their job well.
of course, s.c.o.t.s. rocked my ass off. i love when i go to see a band that (a) i've never seen before and (b) don't own anything by and realize that i know a remarkable number of songs. and their energy was just gorgeously contagious. it was much much fun - well worth the price of admission, even if my ears are still ringing 'cause i can't find my musician's earplugs after the move and i'll be damned if i'm gonna use toilet paper. i'm too old for that... lol
you know, i kind of like going to shows y myself. i mean, inevitably if you go with other people, either you're more into the band than they are or the other way around... and if i'm there to see one of my fave bands, i don't really want to 'babysit- someone else. i'm more than happy to share the experience, but i hope you can see what i mean. and i
hate feeling like someone has to take care of me when i know they'd rather be just watching the show... interesting thing to realize. what i don't like is going home alone - i like being able to 'post-mortem' a show with a friend, compare highlights, share the 'did ya notice' stuff...
woke up to snow this morning - which made me smile 'cause i didn't have to drive in it... just wish i could've woken up in a certain someone's arms... only way it could've been better...

That's the best way to go sometimes... make it a religious experience for yourself instead of trying to convert the masses. And you can dance however you want, there's no witnesses that know you!
