quick update: first place fell through. but it's okay, b/c as we were trying to get into backup position (waiting 4! days for the bank to get back to us) we found out there were so many issues with inspection (plumbing, sewer, electrical) that we wouldn't have wanted it - and that the bank made concessions so the other buyer is going ahead and there's no reason to move into back up.

and it's actually even better than okay because Thurs afternoon we found another place that's actually a little bit better. The lot is smaller, and it's only an oversized one car garage instead of an oversized two, but the house is in MUCH better shape, and it's not bank owned. As a matter of fact, it's in pre-foreclosure so we're working with the owner who is extremely motivated. Nice change from the last one. So, we put it our offer last night and should hear something today. ::happy wiggle::
