A strange end to a lovely day...

My parents came into town and finally met my Dmuff. Of course they loved him. Everyone does. wink

We had lunch at Canter's on Fairfax then ended their visit with a trip and little tour of my workplace in Orange County. I'm not sure what they thought of my work, but it was kind of nice to show them what I do.

After they left, I took Dmuff to a couple of the grocery stores that I like to shop at, near my work. This may sound dorky, but Hollywood really doesn't have anything other than big chain Ralph's stores, which I hate shopping at. I try to always do all my shopping by work to avoid the maddness closer to home.

We went to a small farmer's market style grocer first, and had fun in the bulk bins and veggie section. Then I took him to a Mexican market down the street. It still looks like grocery stores used to look in the 80's, with the super high aisles and butcher and deli sections where you have to take a number for service. We hit up the prepared foods section, took a number, then bought chicharones AND carnitas as well as freshly made tortillas and sweet bread.

After we got home and enjoyed our dinner, I picked up my phone and noticed that I had a couple of text messages.

They were from my compadres. My buddy's father had a stroke and went into a coma. Chance of survival is 1%.

I've known the family for about eight years, and they are some of the nicest, most genuine friends I have ever had. We actually just visited with all of them last weekend. A week ago, I was hugging him. Now this morning, I don't even know if he's alive anymore.

My heart aches. I feel as if I'm losing one of my own family members. But more so, it hurts me to know that the people I love are suffering so much. My Godson is only 6. He spends almost every night with his grandparents, as they live in a duplex. Now his grandpa is being taken away, and it just breaks my heart.

Life is so strange. Just look at how much can happen in a single day, how many emotions we can feel.

I need to go hug my sleeping Dmuff now...

EDIT to conclude..

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

It wasn't even two hours from my last post, when I received another message from my buddies. They wanted us to come to the hospital. My friend's father did not wish to be kept alive on life support, and they needed their loved ones there.

He wanted to donate his organs, so they were going to leave him on life support just long enough to make those arrangements. We prayed together and said our goodbyes.

He is at peace now.
